Nicole Goes to Nepal

I am about to do something amazing. Ever since hearing about the earthquake that happened in Nepal 3 weeks ago I have been open to the possibility of going there to help with relief work, especially since I was already in this part of the world. Now the opportunity has found me.

This morning I fly to Kathmandu to meet a man named Prakash who will drive me out to join a team building temporary shelters for earthquake victims. I do not know any of these people personally but they are four Americans connected with at least 2 local Nepali non-profits. We will be working in villages in the Lalitpur region that have lost 95% of their infrastructure and reportedly all of their livestock. We will be packing in our own food and sleeping in tents.

I’m not sure how long I will be there, and I’m not sure I’m emotionally prepared for what I will find. But this opportunity found me, and it is exactly what I have spent the last 10 years of professional development preparing for. So I am going.

If you would like to donate to the cause you can do so through this link: https://rally.org/f/93tjTMUBQxd

They have estimated that $150-180 will buy supplies for one 6-person bamboo and tin shelter which must last them through the upcoming monsoon season. But any amount will help! Since buying my ticket to Kathmandu two other friends have asked me to help their partner schools there, so it sounds like there is a lot that I could help with.

If nothing else, please hold Nepal and me and the team I am soon to join in your thoughts and prayers. Every time I check the news the death toll seems to have doubled-its over 8,000 now.
